Touring Conference

Bolwerk’s Living Summer School together with ConstructLab France, Fablab Torino, Floating e.V. and Spolka, is going on tour!

Building on the conversations of the Living Summer School’s 2024 Conference “Navigating Informal Education” , we want to bring together initiatives across Europe working with informal education, grassroots pedagogies and community-based learning. This trip will create further spaces to exchange, learn from each other, find common strategies, and strengthen a shared European community of practice.

To do so, we are organising an itinerant conference with three main stops or Labos, each developed with our partners:

  • Berlin – Opening Doors (with Floating e.V, 21.07.26)
Focusing on inclusion, outreach, and how informal education can engage people often excluded from traditional systems, especially young people outside education or employment, and how informal education can open space for alternative ways of learning and understanding the world.

  • Košice – In Context (with Spolka, 25.07.26)
Exploring how informal education is shaped by its environment and context and how pedagogies respond to its surroundings. Further reflections will be dedicated to  alternative ways of formulating impact and evaluation models.

  • Toulouse – Building Communities (with Co
Looking at hands-on learning, collective building, and how shared practices can foster community, participation, and resilient learning environments, while exploring how making and building together can strengthen connections, support collaboration, and create meaningful, experience-based ways of learning.

Each Labo will gather a mix of local youth workers, cultural organisers, practitioners, representatives from the project partners and organisations to exchange practices and perspectives. The programme will include facilitated conversations, field visits, and moments of collective reflection, while also leaving space to simply be together and enjoy the process.

Host us!

Alongside the Labos, the journey itself is part of the project. We believe conviviality and hospitality are fertile grounds for exchange, especially within informal education. Rather than passing through places, we want to experience them through the people who inhabit them.

For this, we are looking for organisations who would like to host us along the way, we formulated two formats for involvement:

  • Discursive Meals: Host a community meal or a community potluck to discuss informal education in an open and relaxed setting. All meals will be sensitive to food allergies and dietary needs. We will provide ingredients and essential cooking equipment.

  • Hangouts: Meet us along the route and introduce us to your organisation. These informal gatherings are moments to exchange practices, build connections, and reflect together on informal education.

  • Overnight Campgrounds: Share with us a simple place where our group (around 12 people, travelling with 3 mini-vans and 2 cars) can stay for a night. A garden to pitch tents is more than enough—basic facilities are a plus, but not essential.

We’re not looking for fancy places or formal settings, just openness, curiosity, and a willingness to exchange. All the encounters along the journey will be documented through multimedia and will become part of a publication. Our broader goal is to move towards a European platform for informal education and we see this itinerant conference as an essential step to work towards a network of solidarity.

If you’d like to host us, please compile this form HERE!

At this stage, we are looking for organisations and practitioners actively engaged in informal education, not just participants, but organisers, facilitators, and stewards of these practices.

In a few weeks we will release an open call for interested people to reserve a spot to join us for each Labo days.
